How to Do Christmas on the Slopes with Kids

November 6, 2018 in Family Time, Inside Look - No Comments

Planning is key when it comes to any vacation, especially when you bring the kids along. Keeping them entertained and fed (especially while trying to enjoy yourself too) can be a struggle. Whether your vacation is all about family time or you know you’ll need some space, Sunday River has you covered. To help you with the planning, we offer you the following guide to making the most of Christmas Week:

Be Prepared

Packing List

It can really throw a wrench in things if you forget something at home. Juggling your own packing is a nightmare in itself, add kids too? We get it—it’s tiring. Our very own Darcy Lambert, VP of Skier Services and mom extraordinaire, has put together this handy packing list to help take the edge off.

Have Fun with the Kids

Eddy The Yeti

Eddy The Yeti, our well-loved mascot and resident yeti, will be making appearances throughout the week, hosting a dinner, and wanting you to find his home/guestbook on the mountain. Luckily you’ll be able to plan ahead so that the kiddos can experience all of the magic he brings.

Night Skiing

The perfect solution to a child’s seemingly never-ending energy. Night skiing is offered all week long at South Ridge from 4 to 8pm. If you’re not done making turns with the young ones, keep ripping it up. If you’re ready to get out of your ski boots, kick back and relax on the Foggy Goggle deck. Sip, dine, and relax while supervising from a distance.

Firedancing & Fireworks

Starting at 7:45pm on December 28, make sure your family is parked outside South Ridge, bundled up and ready for a show (or two). Diane Kibbin will be swirling and twirling fire first, then the sky will take over with fireworks at 8:30pm.

Go Have Adult Fun

Sunday River proudly offers daycare services throughout the day so that while you’re enjoying your moments of solitude, you know your kids are finding their happy place too. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 207-824-5083, but walk-ins are welcome if space allows.

Ski Lessons

Maybe this is your child’s first time skiing, or maybe they’d have more fun being out on the mountain, improving their skills, and making new friends. Either way, ski and snowboard lessons can be a great alternative to daycare if you’re looking for some time off.

Kid’s Night Out

Want a night to yourself? Kid’s Night Out on December 29 will keep your kids fed, entertained, and supervised at South Ridge from 5 to 8pm. So, while your kids are munching on pizza, you can be heading to Sliders, Camp, or any other of Newry and Bethel’s finest restaurants.

Now that you know all there is to know about Christmas Week at Sunday River, make your list, check it twice, and book a trip for lasting holiday memories on the mountain.
